To depict Ursula’s state of mind during her last years, I had to combine symbols and elements of all the important life events she had experienced throughout her lifetime. The crooked corset+white shirt combination is the long-forgotten and severely distorted memory of her youth. The hunchback reminds us of her advanced age and hardships. In the front part of the garment, deconstructed pieces of men’s suits, military uniforms, peasant rags piled together, creating an unimaginable weight, all symbolize her lifetime experience with war, power, men, family and household work. The closer we get to the hemline, the more worn out and destroyed these pieces get; this is the result of corrosion caused by the longest rain in the history of Macondo.
